Making Gertee Seminars

Thank you so much for your interest in our gertee seminars. The exact schedule and a detailed course description will be posted here by March 15, 2009.

The First "Making Gertee Seminar" will be held from April 24 through April 30, 2009.

We'll be building a 30 foot gertee, from the ground up, that will serve as the camp's bath house/spa after we're finished. Everyone's names will be carved on a front door plaque when it's completed. We'll also build one portable, smaller gertee that will be donated as a raffle item to the Kenny Lake Fair, for the Kenny Lake Volunteer Fire Department Fund. Individual students who want to purchase a gertee to take home with them will be assisted to build and cover their own 10 to 18' wooden or PVC pipe gertee. These gertees can be moved to work or vacation locations anywhere in Alaska, and they can be shipped out. Cost of materials and shipping is not included in basic tuitition.

Class size limited to twelve (12) students. 50% deposit required to hold a reservation, no refunds on cancellations, unless it's for a very good reason.

Cost: $700.00 USD

Tuition includes:
Textbook
Certification as a "Trained Gertee Expert"
Graduation, Name Carving Ceremony
A single bed in the hostel for seven (7) nights
Continental breakfasts
Sandwhich lunches
beverages/pupu time
5 nights dinner at Tim's or at campfire

Tuition does NOT include:
Airfare to Alaska or transportation to Kenny Lake, although we can help arrange ground transportation once you arrive in state.
1 night dinner out at Grizzly Pizza
1 night dinner out at Tonsina Lodge
Cost of gertee materials for individuals who want to take one home. This cost will vary depending on the building materials you pre-choose, but we will only charge you the actual cost of your materials, which for a small gertee should only be around $500.00 USD. It will probably cost that to ship too, but you're still looking at owning a full size, livable gertee for around $1000 USD, and it will have all the colors and modifications you choose. For those who plan to share this experience with others, you'll have the model, the knowledge and the "certification" to go out and teach anyone how to make these little round huts. In an emergency, this concept could be a huge help to a lot of people.

Gertees are perfect temporary housing!
A small, easily portable gertee can be set up in a couple hours. Coming to Alaska to work for the summer? As anyone will tell you, it gets cold in our mountains at night. Why spend another night shivering around an outside fire or sleeping in a cold tent when you can be chillin' and cooking over your own fire inside a nice, comfortable gertee?
