Tim's Trapping and Skinning Classes
Update March 4, 2009. Trapping season is over for this year. Tim caught several beaver, lynx, fox, and a dog or two (just kidding).

General Description: Students will make various trapping implements in Tim's workshop, including snares, metal traps and boxes. They will also learn to make emergency snares out of twigs and brush. Depending on the weather, they will use snowmachines, snowshoes, and dogsleds to get to and from the trap lines. There was an abundance of snowshoe rabbits this year and may still be that way next season. There are also birds and other edible critters in the neighborhood. Students unfamiliar with guns and rifles are encouraged to sign up for an extra day to learn how to shoot. There are several good target shooting teachers in the area who will arrange it for us.

Campsites will be available to those hardy enough to combine their schooling with testing their own personal perseverance and winter survival skills. Furnished Gertees may be also be available. Tim lived in tents for much of his childhood so he would never live in a tent again if he can help it. Male students will probably be invited to stay in the guest "space" at Tim's house that he occassionally rents to local construction workers. Meals will be shared at Tim's or in the field, and there's always an abundance of canned and frozen reds for those travelling on a limited food budget.
